Night  Sea  [2024] is inspired by the work of New York artist Irene Rice Pereira [1902-71]. Her glass and acrylic sculpture "Night Sea" [1951] is a captivating exploration of light and reflections through geometric abstraction— a collage of imaginative textures and kaleidoscopic fragments segmented within thin columns of glass. Through her intricate placement of reflective material, Pereira creates a miniature landscape that distorts, shimmers, warps, and constantly evolves when being viewed from various perspectives— resembling a delicate and repetitive yet unpredictable wash of night tides. This piece is my musical interpretation of that resemblance.
